Post: Band Director
Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons for appointment to the post of Band Director, commencing September 2021. The appointment would be for two years in the first instance.
Position Overview:
The Band Director is responsible for the development of a vibrant programme of instrumental music. This includes directing the school’s various ensembles including the concert band, orchestra, jazz band, combos and ensembles. Responsibilities include providing a mixed modality of online and in-person teaching on a regular basis while observing strict covid-19 protocols and other assigned duties that match the candidate’s qualifications and experience.
Qualifications:
Graduate degree or equivalent in Music Education with at least two years experience directing band/orchestra is required. Piano skills would be useful. Administrative experience and sound knowledge of music software tools is essential. The ability to conduct basic instrument repair and maintenance would also be an asset. This post is suitable for a versatile woodwind or brass teacher who has worked with a full range of ages and abilities, and who is very organized, hardworking and self-motivated.
Duties:
These would include (but are not limited to):
- Identifying and training suitable tutors under the school’s mentorship programme.
- Teaching individual and group classes to students at various levels and abilities
- Building a repertoire for these groups, arranging/composing as necessary and conducting those groups in weekly rehearsals;
- Planning a schedule of ensemble performances, and responding to performance requests
- Performing at various concert events on behalf of the school
- Contributing in other areas of the appointee’s special interest and/or department needs.
