Music Technology

Designed to meet the Caribbean Vocational Qualifications (CVQ) requirements in Music Performance. 

The Music Technology course was designed to meet the dynamic needs of today’s music industry.  Students are trained on the equipment and software used by industry professionals, complemented by electives on music fundamentals that provide them a platform to succeed.

Basic Theory:

Students will learn the fundamental aspects of sound theory, how to capture sound and the fundamental concepts around digital audio, all of which will provide the foundational platform to understanding the components, set up and use of a simple digital music studio.

Music Creation: Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) software using Garageband:

Through a combination of demonstration, explanation and hands-on practical exercises, participants will learn the various workflows used in contemporary music production today using common terminology as well as the supporting concepts and procedures that are fundamental to operating any DAW software.

Advanced Music Creation: Pro Tools:

"Participants will be introduced to industry standard Digital Audio Workstation software (DAW) tools used for music audio production. These include Pro Tools and Logic Pro.  This unit is designed to reinforce the learning from the previous units and the experience gained should give students the confidence to work on their own recording projects at home or in studio.

Assessment Methods:

Multiple choice exams and various practical projects make up the assessment of this course.


Electives

Music Theory:

To develop an understanding and knowledge of music theory up to ABRSM Grade One.

Instrument Training:

Developing an instrument skill is an important part of music. Participants will be taught to play simple songs as a prerequisite for the Performance module

Performance:

Through practical sessions, students rehearse and learn to prepare for a performances, whether as an individual, a group or accompanying other artistes. The instruments have been chosen based on what is offered by the School.

Support Services:

This module develops a number of skills associated with the activities that support music performances and instrument care. These skills provide participants with career opportunities within the industry beyond being an artiste

Successful participants in Music Technology and corresponding electives will be able to register to sit the Music Performance CVQ.  Additionally, participants in the Music Theory and Instrument Training electives will also have the opportunity to sit the ABRSM theory and/or practical examinations to gain an internationally recognized certification.
