Policies

All students who register at the Saint Lucia School of Music are requested to read and comply with the school policies below which have been established for the benefit of everyone at the school.

Registration

Students are encouraged to register in September of each year to coincide with the commencement of the academic school period (September to July). We may accept students at a later date subject to availability.

Registration is completed only when classes are confirmed and fees have been paid. Continuing students must re-register before the new term begins to guarantee their spaces.

Payment of Fees

Fees should be paid in full prior to the commencement of class. A payment plan (which is subject to finance charges) may be offered at the sole discretion of school. Failure to abide by the terms of the payment plan may result in the disruption of classes.

Students Attendance Cards

When a student pays his/her fees, the Bursar will forward an attendance register to the respective teacher/s. This register (hereinafter referred to as the attendance card) is to be confirmed electronically or otherwise at every lesson by the student and serves as an attendance record of lessons received. The attendance card forms part of each student’s file along with a copy of the term report at the end of each term..

Punctuality

Students are asked to make every effort to be punctual for their lesson as time lost due to tardiness will not be made up by the teacher. Students who arrive later than Fifteen (15) minutes after the scheduled commencement of their class will be considered to have forfeited their lesson for that period.

In these circumstances, any future accommodations made for the late student will be at the discretion of the school.

Missed Classes

Students should notify either their teacher or the office at least 24 hours in advance if they are unable to attend a class.

Teachers are not required to make up lessons for missed classes. In the event of an emergency, illness or other valid circumstances beyond the control of the student, every attempt will be made by the teacher to accommodate if the schedule permits.

Students who are absent without notification for more than two consecutive lessons or more than three classes in a term will be regarded as having opted out of their chosen course and will forfeit their place within the schedule along with their fees.

If it becomes necessary for a teacher to be absent from class, the school will contact the student concerned to schedule appropriate make-up classes.

Public Holidays

Where public holidays fall on school calendar days during the course of the academic year, classes will not be held or made up.

Musicianship Courses

All students are encouraged to register for one of the School’s musicianship courses, as these will help to clarify and reinforce concepts needed for practical classes.

Music in Action is a musicianship course designed for primary school students. It aims to reinforce basic theoretical concepts through creative group music-making activities.

Musicianship is a course mainly for secondary school students and adults. It is a three-term course in five levels with the option to take CXC at levels 4 & 5 subject to availability. Musicianship students will be encouraged to take ABRSM Theory examinations.

External Examinations

Practical and Theory examinations are conducted by ABRSM. Registration, booking and payment are to be done with ABRSM directly. For further information, please visit the website; https://lc.abrsm.org/en/

Waiver Of Responsibility

Parents and guardians are asked to leave at the School of Music only those children who are receiving classes. The School will not be responsible for children left unattended.

The school accepts no responsibility for student’s personal items that are left unattended.

Noise

Students waiting for classes, or waiting to be picked up are asked to do so quietly. Running and shouting in and around the school affect the learning experience of fellow students. Therefore, students who continuously disrupt and disturb classes may forfeit their place at the School.

Food and Drink

Absolutely no food or drink are allowed in the classrooms. There are specific zones established for eating around the campus, these include tuck shop and out- door recreational areas. Students are asked to make every effort to keep the School clean. Litter should always be placed in the garbage bins provided.

Suspension

The Saint Lucia School of Music reserves the right to suspend students who fail to abide by the School’s policies.

Refunds and Credits

Refunds will only be considered in extraordinary circumstances such as accidents, prolonged illness or death.

If a parent or student wishes to apply for a refund, they may do so by completing a Refund Request form available at the school’s office and attaching a medical certificate or other supporting documentation.

Credit/Transfer of fees

Transfer/credit of fees to the following school term will only be made when classes are cancelled by the school and cannot be made-up during the period as a result of unforeseen circumstances.

In the event of such, credits will be calculated based on the number of missed classes and applied to the new term.

If a student decides to cancel classes on their own terms, they will forfeit all payments made and classes will not be made up.
